Steve Wiblins Erin Eyes Clare Valley
2016 ‘Blarney Stone’ Shiraz
James Halliday review: “One of those wines where you’re happy to be taken prisoner. It’s dense and luscious but well disciplined, with strict rules of tannin and lines of acid maintaining order amid the riot of black berried fruit. Cedary oak has melted straight down into the wine’s inky depths. Great value, all things considered. 14.5% alc.”
A fine vintage for Shiraz in the Clare Valley with a good depth of colour and fruit flavours. Aged in 100% French Oak half was from mixed forests which imparts cedar characters and half from the Troncais forest which adds some sweeter characters. Blended together it makes a wonderful Shiraz.
Colour – Deep red. Aroma – A spicy nose of black and white pepper with lavender and cinnamon. Palate – Chock full of flavors ranging from blackberry and plum to clove and cinnamon. The combinations of oaks give a firm tannin structure with a hint of vanillin lift. Aging Potential 10-15 years
